Texas DMV to launch new motor carrier credentialing system

Texas is expected to launch a new motor carrier credentialing system this summer, according to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Texas Motor Carrier Credentialing System will replace the state’s current Motor Carrier Credentialing System and the Electronic Licensing, Insurance and Credentialing system. The department said the new system will give truckers a “modernized way to apply for motor carrier credentials and manage your account.”

The department listed several features for the new system, including mobile-friendly access from desktops, tablets and smartphones, improved system performance and response time, 24/7 online access, enhanced self-service tools such as online document uploads, password resets and account requests, and expanded account tools including alerts, notifications, data exports and immediate cab card printing.

For carriers who have applied under the current system but still have outstanding requirements, those items must be completed by July 30 to be transferred to the new system. If they are not completed by that deadline, the application will not be transferred and the carrier will need to resubmit once the new system becomes available.

According to the department, carriers with accepted applications must complete their insurance filing with the state and submit payment before July 30. The department said carriers will need to contact their insurance company to get their Unique Identifier Number to file the required insurance information.

Applications currently under review also must be completed by July 30. The department said those applicants should submit any outstanding information requested in the current system so the application can be accepted, then file the required insurance information and submit payment before the deadline.
