Operation Safe Driver Week Starts July 12
The July 12–18 enforcement and outreach campaign will focus on reckless, careless, or dangerous driving.
Operation Safe Driver Week Starts July 12
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has scheduled Operation Safe Driver Week for July 12–18, 2026. Law enforcement personnel will watch commercial and passenger vehicles for unsafe driving behaviors during the weeklong campaign.
CVSA says an officer may issue a warning or ticket when a driver is observed speeding, driving while distracted or fatigued, following too closely, driving while impaired, changing lanes unsafely, ignoring a traffic signal, or not wearing a seat belt.
Reckless and careless driving in focus
The announced focus for 2026 is reckless, careless, or dangerous driving. CVSA describes reckless driving as operating with willful or wanton disregard for people or property. Its announcement describes careless or dangerous driving as operating without due care, attention, or reasonable consideration for other people on the road.
Operation Safe Driver Week combines traffic enforcement with education and driver interactions. The alliance says the program is designed to address preventable driver behavior and improve road safety.
Campaign timing
The campaign begins Sunday, July 12, and runs through Saturday, July 18. It covers both commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles rather than limiting enforcement attention to one group.
CVSA also provides educational material for commercial drivers and newer drivers as part of the broader Operation Safe Driver program. The agency announcement is the primary source for the dates, campaign focus, and examples of conduct officers will monitor.
